History

Mount St. Clare: 1893–2003

Ashford University's grounds was built up in 1893 as the Mount St. Clare Academy, a boarding and day school for young ladies. The thought for this school shaped when Father James A. Murray welcomed the Sisters of St. Francis to educate in Clinton, Iowa. The new Mount St. Clare building was raised for this school in 1910 and stays being used today.

Seeing a requirement for advanced education in Clinton County and the encompassing territory, the sisters established Mount St. Clare College in 1918. This aesthetic sciences foundation was additionally an affirmed educator instruction school from 1932 to 1954. In 1942, 60% of the country instructors in Clinton County and 62% of the educators in the city of Clinton educational system had gotten all their preparation from Mount St. Clare College.

In 1950, the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools initially certify Mount St. Clare College. The school then started to grow rapidly, and gained a religious circle building, new library, new recreation center, the Science Building, and Durham Residence Hall. The school inevitably got to be coeducational in 1967.

For the 1979–1980 school year, the school got endorsement for its initial four-year degree, a lone ranger's system in business organization. Amid that year, Mount St. Clare Academy converged with St. Mary's High School in Clinton, shaping Mater Dei High School (now known as Prince of Peace Preparatory). With the space liberated by the institute's merger, the school started to offer extra four-year programs. In 1997, the sisters got off grounds into their new mother house, The Canticle. In 1998, the Durgin Educational Center was opened, which included new athletic offices, including Kehl enclosure.

2003–present

In 2003, Mount St. Clare College changed its name to The Franciscan University. In the meantime, the college got endorsement to offer its first graduate degree on the web. In September 2004, the school altered its name to The Franciscan University of the Prairies keeping in mind the end goal to stay away from disarray with comparably named schools.

After a time of money related trouble, the college was acquired by Bridgepoint Education in March 2005. After the fruition of the deal, the establishment's name was changed to Ashford University. Sponsorship by the Sisters of St. Francis finished.

In spite of the fact that the college was territorially certify by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, it looked for provincial accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges ("WASC") in 2010. In June 2012, WASC denied beginning accreditation to Ashford University. Taking after WASC's foreswearing of accreditation for being "inadequate in a few regions, including low quantities of full-time staff, high understudy dropout rates and inquiries concerning scholastic meticulousness," HLC requested extra data from Ashford before an October site visit.

Despite the fact that its underlying application to WASC was denied in 2010, its second application was acknowledged in 2013. In affirming accreditation, the WASC Commission Action Letter expressed "The Commission found that the University has reacted to Commission concerns and judges that it is currently in generous consistence with Commission models." The WASC going by group noted in its last report that "the group found an organization that has been generally changed and whose society has been changed in huge ways, including a movement from a business sector driven way to deal with an establishment focused on understudy maintenance and achievement".

In 2013, Ashford University declared a partnership with business distributer Forbes Media. Under the terms of the organization together, Ashford's College of Business and Professional Studies was renamed the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University.

On July 9, 2015, Ashford University declared it is shutting the Iowa grounds toward the end of the Spring 2016 semester because of a powerlessness to keep up a satisfactory enlistment.
